Denia Information

DeniaVilla Alegre is just 2km inland from Denia on the La Sella Golf Course, which has it's own information office.

Brief history of Denia

Founded by the Romans and named after the goddess Diana, Denias population of around 30,000 is protected by the magnificent Montgo mountain and has a glorious climate with an annual average temperature of 19°C.

The ancient castle (seen through the webcam) no longer serves to guard the town, but as a museum that provides lots of local information about Denia.

Shopping in Denia

Shopping in Denia is very enjoyable, with a good mixture of high street shops and smaller individual shops.

If you're into clothes shopping, then Denia will satisfy your needs with designer clothes shops and boutiques for men, women and children.

The town centre has some beautiful restaurants and bars as well as a couple of cyber cafes, so you can even keep an eye on your email.

Four large supermarkets in Denia stock mouth-watering selections of fresh fish and shellfish as well as delicious cured hams and cheeses. The fruit and olives are also delicious and amazingly cheap.

There are also two thriving markets in Denia - the first is on Monday and the Friday market near the bus station is usually busy and crammed with bargains.

The Marinas in Denia

Denia's old and new marinas are home to many traditional and modern restaurants, cafes and bars. Between the two marinas is the port with a fishermans wharf and a jetty where there are daily ferries to Ibiza and Mallorca. In the season it is possible to go on return day trips. Details of crossings are available from Denia Tourist Information (Tel. (0034) 966 422 367).

Balearia Ferries

A glass-bottomed boat also cruises daily from Denia in the summer months down the coast to Benidorm, then back again. You can book a return trip or travel to one of the intermediate stops such as Altea, stop for a meal and then catch the boat on the return trip.

Montgo National Park

Much of the locality between Denia and Javea is occupied by Montgo National Park and is protected from any further development.

Montgo, seen in the photo above, is an impressive limestone rock, 753 metres high located next to the ocean between the towns of Denia and Javea.

A beautiful high path runs down Montgo to the Cape of San Antonio from which the shape of the old agricultural landscape can be appreciated. The flora of the park is very rich with over 600 species.

The ascent to the summit of Montgo Mount is possible from all its slopes and is a beautiful journey crossing many different types of terrain. The cliff area of the Cabo de San Antonio and the marine area below has been declared a Marine Natural Reserve.

Montgo National Park is fabulous territory for walkers and nature lovers alike.
